Yesterday an austrian woman caver had a fatal accident in a german cave – Hier une spéléologue féminime autrichienne a eu un accident mortel dans une grotte allemand
English version (version francaise ci-dessous)
In a german cave at an altitude of 1600 meters on the Untersberg near the german-austrian border near Salzburg a 45 year old woman caver died from a serious head injury. In the newly explored cave on the mountain the woman was hit by a falling rock at a depth of 70 meters.
A cave rescue opertion was set up by the local rescue and caving organizations but the injury was so serious that the caver could not be transported to the surface. She died from her injuries in the cave.
The cave is situated in the same area where last year a major rescue operation was carried out to get Johann Westhauser out of the Riesending Cave. The woman caver who suffered the fatal accident took an active part in that rescue operation.
